Note: ‘Anglo-Saxon’ does not mean ‘white’. Racists & white supremacists please find another feed to follow. This one is not for you.

The @OEwordhoard on twitter was recently followed by some racist groups. It’s always so startling when you’re reminded that some people choose to hi-jack ‘Anglo-Saxon’, using it as a signifier for white supremacy. It’s the same sad story with the EDL and their use of the image of the Arthurian knight.
These folks need to check out ANY history books that look at the movement of peoples during the medieval period. Of course, there was xenophobia and racism, but the ‘medieval’ period saw amazing movements of people around Northern Europe and beyond.
It’s a shame the above tweet had to come about. I suppose as Anglo-Saxonists we have a responsibility to always tackle such people at the earliest opportunity.
