Furtherfield reading: The Dream of the Rood

Just a quick post, I wanted to share a video of one of our visitors at Furtherfield. She insisted that Old English sounded better in an Essex accent, and her quick, confident reading certainly puts a new twist on the Dream of the Rood!

It was a very blustery day, sorry for all the clipping wind.

The Dream of the Rood, lines 1-6a

Hwæt! Ic swefna cyst    secgan wylle,

hwæt me gemætte    to midre nihte

syðþan reordberend    reste wunedon.

Þuhte me þæt ic gesawe    syllicre treow

on lyft lædan,    leohte bewunden,

beama beorhtost.
